Stone Street in Prescot, England

other

According to Atlas Obscura, tucked between two shops on Eccleston Street in Prescot, near Liverpool, stands Stone Street — a relic of medieval England. This sixteenth-century passage is just twenty-eight inches wide at its narrowest point: barely room for one person to walk through comfortably. Exposed red brickwork and ancient cobblestones beneath your feet evoke centuries past. Though it's not England's narrowest street — that record belongs to Parliament Street in Exeter — Prescot proudly claims the second spot, marked with a heritage plaque. Originally leading to a windmill, Stone Street traces the curved boundary of a medieval burgage plot. It's a survivor of urban change that still serves locals as a useful shortcut today.
