Freddy Cannon, one of the last surviving voices of early rock and roll, has died at eighty-nine. Variety reports that the singer, known for late fifties and early sixties top ten hits like "Palisades Park," "Tallahassee Lassie," and "Way Down Yonder in New Orleans," died Friday at a hospice facility in Oxnard, California. Cannon was among the rockers who defined the sound of American radio in the years before the British Invasion.
