Freddy Cannon, Rocker Whose Late ’50s and Early ’60s Hits Included ‘Palisades Park’ and ‘Tallahassee Lassie,’ Dies at 89

Freddy Cannon, one of the last surviving voices of early rock and roll, has died at eighty-nine. Variety reports that the singer, known for late fifties and early sixties top ten hits like "Palisades Park," "Tallahassee Lassie," and "Way Down Yonder in New Orleans," died Friday at a hospice facility in Oxnard, California. Cannon was among the rockers who defined the sound of American radio in the years before the British Invasion.
