Middle East crisis live: US launches new round of airstrikes to ‘swiftly punish’ Iran after American troops killed
world
The United States has launched a new round of airstrikes against Iran's Revolutionary Guard, vowing to swiftly punish Tehran after an attack in Jordan killed two American service members, left one missing, and sent four more to the hospital. The Guardian reports that President Trump called the deaths a shame, while an aide to Iran's supreme leader warned Washington would face even heavier costs. Sixteen US service members have now been killed since the war began, with more than four hundred thirty injured; Iran's health ministry says fifty people have died and over five hundred been wounded in American strikes over the past three weeks. Among Saturday's Iranian strikes, a desalination plant and an oil facility were hit in Kuwait, a nation that depends on desalination for ninety percent of its drinking water.
