Coffee may help the body fight stress and aging through a hidden cellular switch
health
Your morning coffee might be doing more than just waking you up. ScienceDaily reports that scientists have identified a cellular mechanism where compounds in coffee activate NR4A1, a receptor that shields cells from stress, inflammation, and damage. Plant-based compounds like caffeic acid proved particularly active in this process—more so than caffeine itself. Researchers confirmed the connection by removing the receptor; when they did, the protective effects disappeared.
