An embedded systems developer has created an ad-blocking dongle using a five-dollar ESP32 microcontroller, Hacker News reports. The device stores five hundred thirty-seven thousand blocked domains using just fifty kilobytes of RAM and answers DNS lookups in ten milliseconds, showing that network-level ad blocking can be implemented on remarkably low-cost hardware.
