Middle East crisis: US military says service member killed during ‘controlled detonation’ of downed Iranian drone – as it happened
world
The Guardian reports that the US military says an American service member was killed during a controlled detonation of a downed Iranian drone. That follows two US troops killed and one reported missing in Jordan after Iranian attacks. Separately, Jordanian authorities pushed back on a US embassy statement that the airport and seaport in the city of Aqaba had been evacuated because of what the embassy called a specific and credible threat. Jordan's state news agency quoted a government spokesperson saying no evacuation had been ordered and no potential threats had been detected in recent hours, The Guardian says, leaving the two governments publicly at odds over the security picture on the Red Sea coast.
