UN starts evacuating 11,000 stranded sailors from Strait of Hormuz

world

Eleven thousand sailors are being evacuated from the Strait of Hormuz by the United Nations. According to Al Jazeera, the evacuation follows Iran's closure of the vital waterway after the United States and Israel began military operations against Iran on February twenty-eighth. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most critical shipping lanes, responsible for transporting roughly one third of global seaborne oil. Its closure has effectively stranded commercial vessels and personnel in the region. The UN operation represents a significant humanitarian effort to extract the trapped maritime workers and restore passage through what remains a crucial chokepoint for global energy and trade.
