US launches ninth night of Iran strikes as strait of Hormuz standoff sees oil price pass $90 a barrel

The United States launched a ninth consecutive night of strikes on Iran early Monday, The Guardian reports, hours after announcing the death of another American service member. The military said that service member, the third killed in recent days, died Saturday in northern Iraq during a controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance on a downed Iranian attack drone. President Donald Trump said the new attacks were carried out in honour of the dead. Meanwhile, the price of Brent crude oil has climbed above ninety dollars a barrel, its highest level since June, amid the standoff over the strait of Hormuz, the narrow shipping channel through which a large share of the world's seaborne oil passes.
