Dignity in death: The strangers who accompany seniors on their final journey

world

Channel NewsAsia reports on a quiet corner of Singapore's aging society: as the population grows older and families get smaller, more people are reaching the end of their lives with little or no family around them. Filling that gap is a largely unseen network of charities, social workers and funeral directors who step in to make sure those seniors still receive a dignified farewell. It's a role that falls to strangers, accompanying people they never knew on a final journey no one should have to make alone.
