AC Marriott in Nice, France

Along Nice's Promenade des Anglais, an AC Marriott hotel features a striking architectural detail: two bronze statues of a goddess, each nineteen meters tall, created by artist Sasha Sosno. The imposing figures are variously identified as Juno, Hera, or Venus, and they peek from niches running the full height of the twenty-eight-meter building. Atlas Obscura notes that Sosno is known for a style called art of obliteration—which emphasizes empty and full spaces—and in the late nineteen-eighties, he blended sculpture with architecture on projects including the Hotel Elysée Palace, later rebranded as a Marriott. His distinctive works remain a signature of Nice's cultural landscape.
