Osaka's midpoint in Osaka, Japan
other
Osaka has a surprisingly tangible center of the universe: a golden pin buried in the city, installed in nineteen twenty-two as the datum point from which all distances are measured. Atlas Obscura reports the current marker dates to nineteen fifty-seven, but the granite plate underneath traces back to nineteen nineteen, when Japan's road act codified this geographic anchor for seven national roads.
