Trial over Sacramento’s deadliest shooting ends in mistrial

A jury has failed to reach a verdict in the case over the deadliest shooting Sacramento, California, has ever seen. The Guardian reports that the trial of Mtula Payton and Dandrae Martin, tried together for the April twenty twenty-two shooting on K Street that killed six people and injured at least a dozen, ended in a mistrial on Tuesday. The two men had faced up to fifteen years to life in prison for their role in the attack. They were not convicted over the deaths, though jurors did find them guilty of possessing firearms despite prior felony convictions, leaving the central question of responsibility for the six killings unresolved.
