Exclusive: Nvidia's Jensen Huang defends Chinese AI amid Kimi panic

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang gave Axios an exclusive interview on Tuesday arguing that China's open-source AI models are excellent and should not be restricted. Huang contended that limiting them would leave America more vulnerable—open systems are more secure because researchers can examine them and identify flaws, while cheaper models expand the market for chips and data centers that Nvidia sells. His stance directly contradicts Nvidia's own customers, OpenAI and Anthropic, who've been lobbying Washington to shut out Chinese models. Huang went further, suggesting Anthropic should release its Claude Mythos model more widely, noting that restricting it while free alternatives exist makes little strategic sense. The comments arrived hours before Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent signaled the administration may impose sanctions on Chinese AI models over claims of intellectual property theft.
