Led By DeepSeek, 10 Frontier Labs Rush Onto The Crunchbase Unicorn Board In June

ai

Per Crunchbase News, June brought a surge of new unicorns: thirty-four startups joined the Crunchbase Unicorn Board, adding more than one hundred ten billion dollars in value. The commanding story was artificial intelligence labs — ten new AI companies worth sixty-five billion dollars together, topped by DeepSeek, a Beijing-based open-source model developer valued at fifty billion dollars, the highest valuation for any debut unicorn this year. These frontier labs are focused on robotics, physics simulation, world modeling, and sovereign AI. Yet the month also saw a massive reversal: the board's overall valuation dropped by more than one trillion dollars as SpaceX went public, with other notable exits including Cursor, the AI coding tool, acquired by SpaceX for sixty billion dollars.
