Mounting violence in Mali poses threat to military-led governement
world
Mali's military has suffered one of its deadliest losses in years. France 24 reports that at least fifty soldiers were killed in an ambush near the northern town of Anefis, in an attack claimed by Tuareg separatists and Al-Qaeda-linked jihadists. The assault, which was published on Wednesday, is the latest in a string of setbacks: militants have also targeted Malian and Russian Africa Corps forces, downed a military helicopter, and briefly seized territory. Taken together, the reversals raise a pointed question about the staying power of the country's military-led government.
