Salman Rushdie attacker faces US terrorism trial

The man who stabbed the author Salman Rushdie on stage in twenty twenty-two is now facing a second trial, this time on federal terrorism charges. According to The Guardian, Hadi Matar is already serving twenty-five years for attempted murder after being convicted last year, but these new charges could carry a life sentence, which he denies. The federal trial opened on Wednesday in Buffalo, New York, about seventy miles from the venue where Rushdie was stabbed more than a dozen times as he prepared to speak about writers living in political exile.
