Burnham announces £2 bus fare cap across England from January
politics
Prime Minister Andy Burnham announced Wednesday that England's single bus fares will be capped at two pounds starting in January. The Guardian reports the measure aims to ease cost-of-living pressures and will cost the government more than five hundred million pounds. The current nationwide cap is three pounds, though London and Greater Manchester—where Burnham served as mayor—already have the two-pound limit. The government will also allocate funding to allow Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland to implement similar caps.
