France's D-Day landing beaches could become a UNESCO World Heritage site in July

world

Normandy's D-Day beaches are poised to secure UNESCO World Heritage status, ending a nearly twenty-year pursuit. France 24 reports the nomination encompasses the landing beaches themselves, Pointe du Hoc, the German artillery battery at Longues-sur-Mer, Port Mulberry, and the region's military cemeteries and memorials. UNESCO is set to announce its decision between July twenty-four and twenty-seven.
