Ex-Southern Water boss to face trial over allegedly manipulating sewage testing

business

The former chief executive of Southern Water faces trial for conspiracy to defraud, per The Guardian. Matthew Wright and three other former employees are accused of manipulating sewage testing results between 2012 and 2017 to avoid tens of millions of pounds in fines. They allegedly created artificial "no-flow" events at wastewater facilities to influence compliance checks by the Environment Agency and Ofwat, the water regulator. This is the first criminal prosecution of a water industry boss over sewage discharges.
