The Guardian reports that a Mexican man who died while fleeing federal immigration officials in Florida was visiting the United States on a tourist visa. Juan Jairo Coronilla Durán, twenty-eight, ran into traffic and was struck and killed by a semi-truck on July fourteenth, after officials — including agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement — approached him at a gas station. A state highway patrol spokesperson last week described what happened as an encounter with federal officials, and details about his vacation and visa status surfaced in news reports this week.
