Gold's M&A rush
business
NovaGold Resources is acquiring the forty percent stake it doesn't already own in Donlin Gold, creating a four-point-two billion dollar company. Axios reports this will be rebranded as NovaGold Corp and listed on the New York Stock Exchange, making it the largest gold development project in the U.S. The move reflects a boom in mining mergers and acquisitions — Q2 saw twenty-six point three billion dollars in deals, up sixty-eight percent from the previous quarter, the second highest total since tracking began in twenty thirteen. Per reports, rising gold prices — up twenty percent over the past year — coupled with growing demand from artificial intelligence infrastructure and energy transition projects, have fueled the surge. The Trump administration has also pushed aggressively to expand U.S. gold production. While building new mines from scratch is costly and time-consuming, and can face local opposition, the consolidation wave shows companies are choosing to buy existing operations instead.
