Running DOOM on a custom CPU and going viral

tech

Per Adafruit Blog, makers Armaan Gomes and Liam designed a custom CPU from the ground up—working at the logic gate level, connecting peripherals, and adapting the DOOM source code. They deployed their design to an FPGA and ran it in real time, posting video proof that went viral and pulled in millions of views. Before this, they'd only successfully run simpler programs like Pong and Mandelbrot sets, so getting a full published game running on their custom silicon was a major technical leap.
