ISPs' long nightmare of having to list all the fees they charge is finally over

On Wednesday, the Federal Communications Commission voted to scrap a broadband pricing rule from two thousand twenty-three that forced internet service providers to disclose all their passthrough fees. According to Ars Technica, the requirement was meant to stop bill shock—those extra charges consumers face after signing up—and make it easier to compare plans between providers. But internet service providers argued the detailed itemization was too complex. FCC Chairman Brendan Carr sided with them, backing a proposal to let ISPs list their fees using a single aggregate 'up to' figure instead.
