Police admit ‘missed opportunity’ before Manchester synagogue attack

Greater Manchester Police have apologised for what their chief constable called a missed opportunity before an attack on a synagogue in the city. As the Guardian tells it, chief constable Sir Stephen Watson said officers had seized the phones of the Heaton Park synagogue attacker, Jihad al-Shamie, but crucial data on those devices was never examined. The admission, made public on Thursday, raises questions about whether the force could have acted on information it already held before the assault.
