Russia’s largest online marketplace, Wildberries, starts compensating sellers for goods destroyed in Ukrainian drone attacks. Sellers say it’s not enough.

Russia's largest online marketplace, Wildberries, says it will compensate sellers whose goods were destroyed in Ukrainian drone strikes on its warehouses, but many of those sellers say the payments fall far short. Meduza reports that owner Tatyana Kim promised to prioritize the smallest entrepreneurs — more than eighty-eight thousand of them — with payments arriving within twenty-four hours. Yet sellers described getting only a fraction of their losses; one received twenty-six hundred rubles for goods worth forty thousand, and a company source conceded the first installments amount to just ten to fifteen percent of what they would have earned. Days before the strikes began, Wildberries had quietly reclassified drone raids as force majeure, freeing itself from any formal obligation to pay. Ukraine, which has hit at least four warehouses, calls them legitimate military targets that also store goods for the Russian army; nine people have died in the attacks so far.
