More than 20,000 evacuated after intense wildfire in France

world

More than twenty thousand people have been evacuated as an intense wildfire pushes across the Atlantic coast of south-west France, The Guardian reports. The blaze broke out in dense pine forest near the village of Saumos, roughly forty kilometers west of Bordeaux and just north of the bay of Arcachon, a popular tourist stretch. Among those cleared out are thousands of holidaymakers from campsites and other accommodation, with reception centers opened to receive them. Firefighters said on Thursday that the fire had burned two thousand four hundred hectares, nearly six thousand acres, in less than twenty-four hours.
