Jacob Tsimerman has won the twenty twenty-six Fields Medal, one of mathematics' highest honors, for proving the André-Oort Conjecture. Quanta Magazine reports that Tsimerman is driven by the challenge of solving difficult problems and being the first to do so, rather than pursuing mathematics purely for its beauty.
