Republican-controlled committee refers former Trump prosecutor Jack Smith for criminal investigation

The House Judiciary Committee has referred former special prosecutor Jack Smith to the Justice Department for criminal investigation over allegations he lied to Congress. The Guardian says Committee Chair Jim Jordan asserts that Smith made false statements during testimony about obtaining phone records of Republican lawmakers in his investigation into former President Trump's efforts to overturn the twenty twenty election. Democrats are calling the referral baseless and accuse Republicans of weaponizing the justice system.
