Latvia bans import of books, clothing, and toys made in Russia and Belarus

Latvia's parliament has passed new restrictions on imports from Russia and Belarus, according to Meduza. The amendments ban a range of goods—books, video games, toys, clothing, and footwear produced in those countries. The restrictions take effect once the government approves the full list of banned items and will cover not just direct imports but also goods routed through third countries, though transit to other EU neighbors remains allowed. Latvia's Foreign Minister says Russia uses books and periodicals in Russian for propaganda purposes. The ban is largely symbolic: goods from Russia and Belarus already make up less than one percent of Latvia's total imports, and the items targeted in this ban represented about twelve point five million euros in twenty twenty-five.
