Ex-BBC journalist awarded £20,000 after MI5 and PSNI unlawfully accessed phone data

A tribunal has ordered MI5 and the Police Service of Northern Ireland to pay twenty thousand pounds to a former BBC journalist, according to The Guardian. Vincent Kearney, who was the BBC's Northern Ireland home affairs correspondent, had his mobile phone data unlawfully accessed as the agencies attempted to identify his journalistic sources. The tribunal ruled the surveillance disproportionate and unlawful.
