Business rates cut for pubs, clubs and music venues in England only ‘a small move’, say critics

The Guardian reports that England's pubs, clubs, and live music venues will receive a twenty percent cut to business rates under a new one hundred million pound package from Prime Minister Andy Burnham. Aimed at easing cost of living pressures on hospitality, the measure nonetheless drew quick criticism—industry groups say it doesn't go far enough and are calling for VAT cuts and support for hotels and restaurants. The government plans to fund the program through a review of business rate relief for businesses seen as non-essential to their communities, such as vape shops.
