Minnesota man sentenced to life for killing Democratic lawmaker Melissa Hortman

A Minnesota man will spend the rest of his life in prison for a pair of politically motivated killings. The Guardian reports that Vance Boelter, fifty-nine, was sentenced on Thursday to two consecutive life terms plus forty years after pleading guilty in June to six counts. Those counts stem from the killings of Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, and the shootings of state Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette. The sentencing comes a little over a year after the attacks.
