A proposed bill called the AI Kill Switch Act would let federal government officials order the shutdown of AI systems that could cause catastrophic harm. Per Ars Technica, the measure would require AI developers to deploy technical capabilities allowing regulators to throttle, restrict, or disable systems when ordered. Companies refusing to comply could face fines of up to twenty million dollars for each day of violation.
