Ozon, Yandex, and Wildberries banks caught in the EU’s largest sanctions sweep in four years
politics
Meduza reports that the European Union published its 21st sanctions package—the largest batch of individual and organizational listings in four years. The targeted forty-eight individuals include Russian sports minister Mikhail Degtyarev, Putin aide Vladimir Medinsky, and Gazprom-Media head Alexander Zharov. But the economic impact extends far wider: one hundred seventy organizations were sanctioned, with ninety-four being Russian banks including Ozon Bank, Yandex Bank, and Wildberries Bank. The package also restricts several major Russian oil refineries. The EU cited Degtyarev's role in military rehabilitation in occupied Ukrainian territory and Medinsky's involvement in state propaganda as key justifications for the personal sanctions.
