India ‘cockroach’ activist Sonam Wangchuk ends hunger strike as protests spread
politics
Indian activist Sonam Wangchuk has ended a twenty-six-day hunger strike in Delhi, The Guardian reports. He halted the protest citing concerns about possible violence, after negotiations with federal ministers and parliament members. The strike originally focused on an exam paper scandal, but has grown into a larger youth-led movement against Narendra Modi's government. Organizers are demanding the education minister resign and are protesting police brutality. Nationwide demonstrations are planned for Friday.
