‘Burnham bounce’ and World Cup lift mood in July, says data firm

Consumer confidence in the UK surged this month by its largest margin in nearly three years, according to data from GfK. The jump was driven by three factors: the prospect of Andy Burnham becoming prime minister, England's strong performance at the World Cup, and sunny weather. Together, GfK says these have sparked what it's calling a "Burnham bounce" and lifted the mood among British consumers.
