Woman and man arrested in Ireland after police intercept ‘highly sophisticated’ bomb

Two people, a woman and a man, have been arrested in Ireland after police intercepted what they described as a highly sophisticated and extremely significant bomb, The Guardian reports. According to the paper, detectives from the Garda Síochána's special detective unit, targeting dissident republicans, stopped a vehicle carrying explosives on the N2 south of Carrickmacross, in County Monaghan near the border, on Wednesday afternoon. The Garda Síochána is the Republic of Ireland's national police force.
