Middle East crisis latest: US carries out strikes across Iran as Tehran targets American bases in region

The United States launched missile strikes across Iran on Friday, escalating a widening Middle East conflict. According to The Guardian, the strikes followed a vow by President Donald Trump to inflict what he called major military punishment on Tehran and its Houthi allies in Yemen, after the war spread to a second major shipping chokepoint at the mouth of the Red Sea. US Central Command said it hit Iranian military command centers, communication networks, drone storage sites, coastal surveillance posts, and maritime capabilities. Iran, meanwhile, is reported to be targeting American bases across the region.
