Meet the woman behind the world’s first environmental justice encyclopedia

Per The 19th, environmental sociologist Dorceta Taylor has just completed the world's first comprehensive environmental justice encyclopedia. With three hundred sixty entries and eight hundred thousand words, the SAGE Encyclopedia documents global movements led by Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color fighting environmental harm—contributions largely absent from mainstream environmental history. Taylor became the first Black woman to earn a doctorate from Yale's School of Environment in nineteen ninety-one; with this resource, she restores recognition to work by communities the environmental movement has historically overlooked.
