Thousands of lightning strikes trigger fresh wildfires in western Canada

Western Canada is facing fresh wildfires after nearly thirty-four thousand lightning strikes over the past week sparked new blazes and evacuation orders across southern British Columbia. The Guardian reports that as of Friday morning the province had ninety active wildfires and twenty-five evacuation orders, with fires also still burning in Ontario. Prime Minister Mark Carney has called it one of the most intense wildfire seasons on record. Authorities warn that warming and drying conditions could push the fires to grow further.
