More than 90,000 people flee as wildfires spread in south-west France and Spain

More than ninety thousand people have fled huge wildfires burning across Spain and France, The Guardian reports. Authorities in south-west France ordered the total evacuation, by land and sea, of the Cap Ferret peninsula, one of the country's best-known holiday spots, in the face of what officials called an intense and highly unpredictable blaze. The fire has already torn through more than twelve thousand five hundred hectares of forest, while Madrid declared a national emergency over separate fires. Evacuations along the Atlantic coast are being carried out village by village as the flames continue to spread.
