Chuck Russell, director of The Mask and The Blob, dies aged 74

Chuck Russell, the director behind a string of Hollywood hits, has died at the age of seventy-four. The Guardian reports that Russell was found dead in his San Diego, California home on Wednesday. Over a decades-long career he directed A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, The Blob, and the 1994 comedy The Mask, and helped launch stars including Jim Carrey, Cameron Diaz, and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. In 2002, his film The Scorpion King gave The Rock his first leading role.
