Nearly 98,000 hectares burned in France, a 'historic record' says government

Per France 24, nearly ninety-eight thousand hectares have burned in France—a historic record. A massive wildfire in the southwestern department of Gironde continues to pose a grave threat, regional official Sophie Brocas said Saturday. But the blaze is losing intensity, she reported, thanks to lower temperatures and increased humidity helping to slow its spread.
