Swinney requests UK military aid as 500 firefighters tackle Cairngorms wildfire

Scotland's first minister has requested military aid from the UK government as more than five hundred firefighters battle a wildfire that has burned in the Cairngorms national park for the past ten days. According to The Guardian, the blaze has forced the evacuation of homes in the remote Highlands region. John Swinney called it a major and serious incident, though he said Saturday afternoon had brought an improved picture, with hopes that aerial support could help bring the fire under control.
