Kevin Mitnick left the man who helped jail him enough for a Porsche 911

tech

Legendary hacker Kevin Mitnick once tried to infiltrate Novell's network through social engineering. He called administrator Shawn Nunley late at night, claiming to be an employee needing direct inbound modem access for a classified project. Nunley saw through the ruse. Rather than hanging up, he played along—asking the caller to leave a voicemail so he could document the attempt. Nunley recorded the message on a cassette tape, preserving evidence of the deception. Years later, after Mitnick's death, an unexpected twist emerged: his will included a substantial gift for Nunley—enough to buy a Porsche nine-eleven. According to Boing Boing, it's a remarkable full-circle moment between a legendary hacker and the man who thwarted him.
