Boing Boing reports that in nineteen seventy-one, two engineers trained at Northrop in Van Nuys created the AVE Mizar. They took a Ford Pinto and bolted the back half of a Cessna Skymaster to it, complete with wings, twin tail booms, and propeller. It represented the flying car concept at its most literal.
