Wildfires ravage southwest France: Thousands face devastation after evacuation

A wildfire burning out of control since midweek has forced tens of thousands from their homes in southwest France, France 24 reports. Overnight Sunday, 55,000 more people were evacuated from the Gironde region, pushing the regional total to 220,000 displaced. Gusting winds and dry conditions are hampering efforts to contain the blaze as it edges toward Bordeaux, the historic city at the heart of France's wine country.
