Per Axios, with 100 days until the midterm elections, the political landscape is sharply divided. In the House, Democrats are upbeat — they're ahead by seven points on the generic ballot, and Democratic candidates have outperformed the 2024 presidential ticket in special elections. High gas prices and lingering cost-of-living pressures work in their favor. But Republicans gained significantly in redistricting, netting roughly six to nine new seats depending on how competitive districts are counted. The Senate presents a tougher map for Democrats. They hold 45 seats plus two independents, while Republicans hold 53 — so Democrats need to flip four seats, including at least two in states Trump carried. That's steep. A few races define the shape of the battle: Democrat Troy Jackson faces Republican Senator Susan Collins in Maine; Democrats have also recruited veterans like former Senator Sherrod Brown in Ohio and former Representative Mary Peltola in Alaska. But perhaps the most fluid race is Michigan's August fourth Senate primary, where Representative Haley Stevens has fifty million dollars in PAC funding against progressive challenger Abdul El-Sayed, who has drawn endorsements from Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Axios reports the race is tied in polling despite the funding disparity.
