Raging wildfires force evacuation of over 220,000 in southwestern France
world
Wildfires tearing through France's Gironde department have forced more than two hundred twenty thousand people from their homes, France 24 reports. Evacuees are now crowded into emergency shelters as firefighters work to contain the flames, with no word yet on when residents might be allowed back. The scale of the displacement makes this one of the largest wildfire evacuations the region has seen.
