A Russian court sentenced Kirill Cheplygin to 19 years for the brutal murder of his ex-wife and her boyfriend. He’s fighting in Ukraine instead.

A court in Krasnoyarsk Krai sentenced Kirill Cheplygin to nineteen years for the murder of his ex-wife Yekaterina and her boyfriend Vyacheslav, a knife attack prosecutors called deliberately cruel. Meduza reports that Cheplygin has since signed a military contract and left for the front in Ukraine, departing the same day a ruling stripped him of his parental rights. More than eleven thousand Achinsk residents had signed a petition opposing his release, and relatives of the victims say they fear his return.
